Genoa Lakes Golf Club

The Genoa Lakes Golf Club, Genoa, NV, is composed of two 18-hole championship golf courses: The Resort Course and The Lakes Course. The courses have exceptional variety and diversity and include luxurious amenities. The natural beauty of the Nevada Desert, including an array of indigenous wildlife, is integrated into the landscape.

The Resort Course opened for play in 1995 and is surrounded by a residential development approved for 395 single-family homes. From the 625-yard downhill Par-5, Hole 9, to the 150-yard island green Par-3, Hole 17; each hole has been uniquely designed, creating a sense of solitude and serenity.

The Lakes Course opened for play in 1993 and is situated just below the Sierra Nevada Foothills. The golf course is in a gated community called Genoa Lakes. This course is 1 mile from the center of historical downtown Genoa, the first settlement in the State of Nevada and 18 miles from the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. The community has 220 home sites surrounding the golf course, of which 95% have been developed, ranging from 3,000 square feet homes to 7,000 square feet homes.

Development Opportunity

Approximately 6+ acres surrounding the club house at the Resort Course is zoned Tourist Commercial.  This type of zoning would permit the development of a hotel or time or fractional share units, transforming the Resort Course into a Golf/Ski Destination Resort. The Resort Course is approximately 17 miles (1/2 hour) from the Nevada side of Heavenly Valley, a Vail Resorts property. In addition, the zoning permits limited gaming opportunities without the necessity of obtaining a variance.  With the proper variance, it would be possible to obtain a full gaming license.  Currently the club house footprint utilizes less than one acre with ample room between the clubhouse and driving range to construct a resort lodging facility or with the demolition or remodel of the club house, to create an entirely new footprint for the planned resort.

The Designers

The Resort Course was co-designed by Johnny Miller and John Harbottle III. The Lakes Course was co-designed by Peter Jacobsen and John Harbottle III.

Irrigation and Water Supply

The golf courses are supplied by water from the Carson River, James Canyon and supplemental well water. The annual water allotment for the courses is 1,185 acre-feet per year.
